New Amityville Horror Case

A tragic case reminiscent of the Amityville horror unfolded recently. A couple, involved in a grisly murder, evaded life sentences in a Long Island courtroom on Tuesday. They argued that their actions stemmed from the abuse committed by their victim.

Jeffrey McKee, 40, received a 22-year prison sentence, while his girlfriend, Alexis Nieves, 35, was sentenced to 11 years. These sentences were part of a peculiar plea agreement reached in November.

The couple claimed that they had been mistreated by Malcolm Craig Brown, 53, and his wife, Donna Connealy, 59. They argued for lighter penalties after confessing to killing and dismembering the couple at their Amityville residence in 2024.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney remarked that he was “satisfied” with the sentence given the restrictions of the law. He highlighted that the state’s Domestic Violence Victims Justice Act allows for lesser sentences for defendants who have faced abuse.

“As far as the defendant’s claimed abuse under the DVSJA, the sentence was harsh despite the bizarre nature of New York’s lenient sentencing laws,” he stated.

The allegations of abuse added complexity to the case, leaving Long Islanders shocked when the severed heads and limbs of Brown and Connealy were discovered scattered across Suffolk County over a grim week in early 2024.

This dreadful trail of dismembered remains ultimately led Suffolk County police to a seemingly quiet home on Railroad Drive, beneath the State Route 110 overpass.

Brown and Connealy, originally from Yonkers, had recently moved in with McKee and Nieves, a couple from Westchester County. However, the living situation quickly soured, culminating in a horrifying incident on February 27, 2024. During this altercation, Nieves struck Connealy with a meat tenderizer, kicked her while she choked on her own blood, and McKee fatally stabbed Brown.

Following the crime, Brown’s cousins, Stephen Brown, 46, and Amanda Wallace, 42, assisted in dismembering the victims using a butcher knife. The aftermath left various plumbing fixtures clogged with blood.

Both Stephen Brown and Amanda Wallace later pleaded guilty to charges related to improper disposal of a corpse.

McKee and Nieves also faced second-degree murder and manslaughter charges.

A forensic psychiatric report, which remains sealed, revealed details of the abuse McKee allegedly endured from Malcolm Brown. During sentencing, McKee expressed deep regret, saying, “I truly wish this had never happened. I wish I had never met them. I wish they were both still alive.”
