The Texas Longhorns and North Carolina State Wolfpack women’s basketball teams experienced a strange inconsistency before Sunday night’s Elite Eight matchup.
The NCAA recognized that the distances between the three-point lines on each side of the Moda Center court in Portland, Oregon, were different. The issue surfaced over the weekend via The Athletic, as 3-point range appeared to be present in UConn’s win over Duke University on Saturday night.
When officials measured the distances between the three points on the court before tipoff between the Longhorns and Wolfpack, the NCAA confirmed they were different.

However, both North Carolina State head coach Wes Moore and Texas head coach Vic Schaefer had already agreed to play with the lines on the court, so the game remained intact.
The report was first reported on ESPN, which added that the court was the same one used throughout the weekend.
The NCAA issued a statement at halftime acknowledging the issue and saying the court would be modified for Monday night’s Elite Eight game between UConn and USC.

“The NCAA was informed today that the three-point lines on the court at Moda Center in Portland are not the same distance,” the statement said. “Both head coaches recognized the discrepancy and chose to play the complete game on the court as is, rather than modifying the court and delaying the game. The court will be modified in time for tomorrow’s game in Portland.”
The group has not explained how the discrepancy came about in the first place.
