Court issues arrest warrant for South Korea’s President Yoon

A South Korean court on Tuesday approved an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was impeached and suspended over his Dec. 3 decision to impose martial law, investigators said.

The High-level Corruption Investigation Bureau confirmed that the Seoul Western District Court approved the warrant.

According to local media, this is the first time an arrest warrant has been issued for a sitting president in South Korea.

On Monday, South Korean law enforcement authorities sought an arrest warrant for Yun over the brief imposition of martial law this month.

Yun is under criminal investigation on suspicion of rioting.
