Two cousins were arrested after a bizarre incident involving a machete and what appeared to be a pipe bomb outside a New York City police station on Wednesday.
New York City Police Department According to police, the two men arrived by car at the 25th Precinct in East Harlem just before noon.
The driver of the vehicle told officers he was attacked by another man with a machete. Police found a weapon inside the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.
Police said the victim told them there were explosives in the vehicle, and police found a “potentially viable improvised explosive device.”

Fox News Digital obtained photos of the rather large device.
The New York Police Department’s bomb squad was then called in to investigate.
Police said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon that they were still investigating whether the device was operational.

NYPD Deputy Chief of Police Jason Huerta said the suspect in possession of the device was “talking at length about incoherent thoughts and delusions.”
Police said both suspects involved in the case have been arrested between 10 and 20 times, but none of them have been arrested within the past five to 10 years.

Officials added that the incident does not appear to be terrorism or politically motivated.

“At this point it appears that it was essentially a domestic dispute. Whoever had the device may have been experiencing emotional issues. That’s what it appears to be at this point.”
