Cowboys Fall to Giants, Extend Loss Streak

The Dallas Cowboys faced off against the New York Giants on Sunday and ended up losing 34-17, marking their second consecutive defeat—something that hasn’t happened since 2002.

In a dramatic turn, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was ejected at halftime. Defensive end Donovan Ezeilak also faced a dismissal after he yanked off a Giants player’s helmet during a third-quarter play. Prescott’s performance was lackluster, finishing with only 70 yards passing and a fumble in the first half. Ironically, he still leads the league in passing yards for the season.

With Prescott sidelined, the Cowboys were outscored 18-7 in the second half. Ezeilak’s ejection came right after the Giants scored a touchdown to stretch their lead to 22-10, which triggered a scuffle involving some pushing and grabbing.

Additionally, Dallas defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was penalized for unnecessary roughness, allowing the Giants to inch closer to the end zone. They eventually scored two more points, extending their lead to 24-10. The Cowboys couldn’t bounce back; backup quarterback Joe Milton ended the game with an interception, finishing the day down by 17.

This loss is fitting, really, for a disappointing season that now stretches their Super Bowl drought to a full 30 years. The Cowboys made a big move at the trade deadline, sending a future first-round pick and a second-round pick to the New York Jets for Williams in hopes of boosting their playoff chances, but that plan seems to have backfired considering this season’s outcome.

Before the season, there were concerns about the team’s competitiveness after they traded star linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. As it stands, their defense ranks 29th in the NFL this season without him.

Despite showing some promise in November by winning three straight games, the Cowboys fell apart, leading to a loss of playoff hopes. After dropping a key game against the Detroit Lions, their chances dwindled to just 8 percent.

In contrast, the Giants celebrated a rare moment of victory, marking their first season with wins against both the Cowboys and Eagles since 2020. They currently sit with a 4-13 record but still have a chance for a high pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
