Incident at NBC’s “Today” Show Involving Alleged Intruder
A man has been charged after allegedly storming the “Today” show studio at NBC, where he reportedly directed racial slurs toward co-anchor Craig Melvin. The man, identified as Andrew Truelove, 41, has a lengthy criminal background and has faced numerous legal issues over the years, including periods of homelessness in California.
According to police reports, Truelove entered a restricted area near Studio 1A at 30 Rockefeller Plaza around 9 a.m., seeking to speak with well-known weather anchor Al Roker. Instead, he reportedly confronted Melvin and used a racial slur against him.
After Melvin raised the alarm, a New York Police Department officer on duty in the building apprehended Truelove. He was taken to the Midtown North Precinct, where he faced charges including harassment, hate crime-related theft, intimidation, and trespassing.
Authorities noted that Truelove has been arrested multiple times in New York City during the past year. His criminal record stretches across years and locations, reflecting a tumultuous life marked by frequent legal troubles.
Truelove became homeless in California earlier this year after moving from Virginia, just two days after completing his probation. Reports indicate that he has grappled with PTSD and mood disorders, compounding his struggles in the state where he found himself isolated without friends or family. Following the collapse of plans to create a social media platform, he reported spending significant time sleeping outdoors and hanging around convenience stores.
