Crews rescue teen from 50-foot-deep California mineshaft: Watch

The teenager was rescued from the California mining industry after he and his friends decided to use their home rope to explore the cave, officials said.

The Placer County Fire Department responded to medical rescue on Feb. 10 with the help of the Auburn Fire Department, saying the 16-year-old was trapped in a vertical mine shaft nearly 50 feet deep.

When the crew arrived, they were led into a cave by the victim's friend, and after hiking about 180 feet through the horizontal shaft to the side of the mountain, he and his friends entered the shaft to explore. I learned about this.

Using a home rope, the three young men rappelled down the vertical shaft about 40-50 feet. However, on the way back, the rope broke, causing the third victim to descend about 30 feet to the bottom of the shaft.

Authorities said the victim tried to climb a way out of the shaft, but eventually ran out of strength and placed himself on the shelf while waiting for a rescuer.

Once rescuers arrived, they set up a lightweight yet complex rope system and established a system that monitors the air quality of the shaft.

The main rescuer from the team then dived into the victim's location and secured him with a harness, and he was safely lifted off the shaft.
