Defending a Fallen Security Guard
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, is standing up for a man who once served as a security guard for her. Tragically, he was killed during a police standoff in Dallas on Wednesday, facing accusations of impersonating a police officer.
The individual, identified as Diamon Maazel Robinson, age 39, had barricaded himself at the Children’s Medical Center Dallas after police pursued him while executing a warrant. Reports indicate that Robinson had a history of operating a business named Off-Duty Police Services under the alias Mike King. He allegedly wore a fake uniform to pose as a federal officer and ran a fraudulent operation hiring police officers for off-duty engagements.
During the standoff, police footage captured a SWAT officer instructing Robinson to exit his vehicle and comply to ensure his safety. As officers deployed tear gas to extract him, there were repeated warnings to avoid reaching for his hands. In a tense moment, he appeared to threaten officers by pointing a gun, which they subsequently responded to with gunfire.
Additionally, it’s reported that the firearm Robinson had was stolen. Crockett, in her defense, stated that everyone has a story that goes beyond their mistakes. She emphasized her belief in redemption, noting that those who worked with Robinson respected his commitment to protecting others.
Crockett mentioned that her team followed all necessary protocols while hiring security personnel and found no violent criminal history associated with Robinson. She expressed her grief over losing the man they knew—not just his mistakes but the potential positive impact he might have had.
There have been previous suggestions from Crockett about how poverty can lead individuals to crime, stating that the justice system does not always consider the underlying issues that drive people to illegal activity. She added that committing a crime doesn’t necessarily define someone as a criminal.
