A chaotic scene unfolded in a Los Angeles restaurant on Wednesday night when a crowd mistakenly identified three federal air marshals as ICE agents and began to chase them.
The marshals were enjoying a meal at a Korean barbecue place in Plaza Mexico, located in Lynwood, when false reports circulating on TikTok about ICE agents in the area led to a sudden influx of people. CBS shared the details of the situation.
Social media footage captured the protesters gathering at the shopping center, demanding the supposed ICE agents leave.
In response, numerous deputies arrived to assist the air marshals, who were subsequently escorted to a van and removed from the area. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported during the incident.
This case of mistaken identity occurred at around 6:20 p.m. in the 3100 block of E. Imperial Highway. Authorities indicated that the large crowd formed after misinformation spread through nearby restaurants and social media channels.
Air marshals had called for backup, with many marshals from two neighboring stations promptly responding to the situation.
It seems someone simply misidentified the marshals while they were dining—an unfortunate misunderstanding that turned into quite a scene.
