Cruise ship worker gets 30 years for secretly filming kids

A perverted employee on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for installing hidden cameras in cabins and even hiding under beds to film young children coming out of the shower.

Irvin Joseph Mirasol, a 34-year-old Filipino national who worked as a flight attendant on the Symphony of the Seas, pleaded guilty to producing child sexual abuse material, including of children as young as 2, and was sentenced on Wednesday. According to the Department of Justice.

Mirasol was detained at sea on Feb. 25 after the girl discovered the camera “fixed to the counter under the sink,” the day after the cruise ship departed from South Florida.

Arvin Joseph Mirasol, 34, a flight attendant on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, is accused of installing a hidden camera to spy on passengers, including underage girls, while they were showering. Broward County Sheriff

He was arrested by Broward County sheriff's officers in March after the Symphony of the Seas returned to Port Everglades, initially on state charges, and was fired from his job.

According to investigators, Mirasol admitted to spying on the girls ever since he began working on the cruise ship in December 2023, telling them he “wanted to control them but couldn't.”

He also admitted to installing hidden cameras in several rooms, according to court documents.

Investigators said Mirasol would enter guests' rooms while they were showering and hide under the bed to secretly film them as they emerged from the shower.

His electronic devices contained numerous videos of children in various stages of undress, with a focus on the children's genitals.

Officials said one of the videos also showed Mirasol setting up a camera in a guest's bathroom.

Investigators determined the children seen in the video ranged in age from 2 to 17 years old.

According to a federal criminal complaint, one video shows a girl, approximately 10 years old, undressed and in the shower, with her genitals “clearly visible” and “the focus of the video.” Retrieved by Local 10.

Authorities also found multiple voyeur-related searches on Mirasol's phone, including “teens on bed.”

When asked how he decided which rooms to target, investigators said Mirasol said, “If I like who's in the room, I'll arrange for that person,” and that he would choose girls over the age of 16.

Royal Caribbean previously said that after learning of the allegations, it “immediately notified law enforcement and terminated the crew member.”

“We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behavior,” a crew company spokesman said shortly after Mirasol's arrest.
