Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) publicly endorsed former President Trump on Tuesday night, a day after the former president won the Iowa caucuses.
“I am proud to support Donald J. Trump for president. Now is the time to come together to oust Joe Biden and save our country from the Democratic Party's destructive plan,” Cruz said. I wrote to X, Previously on Twitter.
“To win this fight, please support me and President Trump by donating now and help us defeat Joe Biden and save America. Make a powerful statement with your support.” He also included a link to donate to the Trump campaign.
Cruz joins at least 23 other U.S. senators who supported Trump in the Republican presidential primary. The Texas senator has supported Trump in two other elections, in 2020 and 2016.
Cruz endorsed Trump in 2016 after withdrawing his own candidacy for president in that year's primary. Trump reportedly hurled personal insults throughout his campaign, for which he later apologized.
Mr. Cruz recently defended Mr. Trump as he faces ongoing criminal proceedings, accusing Democrats of “weaponizing the legal system.”
