Cruz leading Allred by 3 points in Texas Senate race: poll

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) maintains a 3-point lead over his Democratic challenger, Rep. Colin Allred, according to a new poll.

of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) researchAmong registered voters in the state, Mr. Cruz has an approval rating of 46%, compared to 43% for Mr. Allred, according to a survey conducted by Main Street Research. Approximately 11% of respondents answered “undecided.”

When asked which candidate they would vote for if the election were held today, the incumbent maintained a three-point lead over Allred, 47 percent to 44 percent, according to the data. However, the number of undecided voters fell to 9%.

The numbers came after Allred's team announced Tuesday that it had raised more than $30 million in the past three months in its fight against Cruz, hoping to defeat one of the Senate's most prominent conservatives. This reflects the broader aspirations of Democratic donors. The Texas Republican raised $21 million in the same period, according to his campaign.

It will be less than a week before both sides take to the debate stage.

A poll compiled by The Hill/Decision Desk shows Mr. Cruz leading Mr. Allred by 2.8 points, with an approval rating of 47.9%, compared to the Democratic candidate's approval rating of 45.1%.

The FAU poll was conducted from Oct. 2 to Oct. 6 among 811 registered voters in the Lone Star State. The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
