Cuomo expected to exit the NYC mayoral race following loss to Mamdani

Cuomo’s Possible Exit from Mayoral Race

Andrew Cuomo might be considering stepping back from the mayoral race following a significant defeat against Zoran Mamdani. It appears quite likely that the former New York governor won’t be a contender in the general election as an independent candidate. His supporters are now exploring their options, potentially leaning toward Eric Adams or another independent figure.

A source noted, “All indications suggest he’s not interested in running anymore, and even if he were, funding might be an issue.” Cuomo, however, mentioned in an interview that he wanted to grasp the landscape of the general election better before making any final decisions.

On a Wednesday broadcast of “Mornings With Maria,” host Maria Bartiromo suggested that Cuomo may not be entirely out of the race yet. She pointed to a conversation with the former governor who stated that he hadn’t ruled out the possibility of a November run.

Cuomo Acknowledges Mamdani’s Success in the Democratic Primary

In a concession speech, Cuomo recognized Mamdani’s victory and praised his campaign efforts. “Tonight belongs to Mamdani. He ran a great campaign that truly mobilized young voters,” he remarked during an election night gathering.

Mamdani, a 33-year-old assembly member from Queens, is originally from Uganda. He outperformed Cuomo and several other competitors in a crowded primary. This win positions him as a strong contender in the heavily Democratic city come November.

Cuomo’s campaign has yet to provide any immediate comments regarding the situation.
