‘Current Trade War’ Will ‘Hopefully’ Lead to ‘New Trading Partners’, We’re Also Trying to Bring Jobs Back

On CNN's “The Lead” broadcast on Tuesday, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins discussed tariffs, saying, “The push to bring our work back to America is really, really important to produce at our borders.” And “I hope that one of the silver linings of the current trade war we are moving to become new trading partners like India, like the UK around the world.” But she also believes that the situation in Mexico and Canada will “go to a good place.”

Rollins said,[T]It is truly, really important to his fight for a better America, make America great again, bring our work back to America and produce within our country's borders. And I think what Governor Trudeau said today about bringing more tariffs is just part of what happened before and after. But at the end of the day, the President's vision and what he influences and what he represents are fighting for this country. The tariffs work. They used to work, they work again. ”

Host Jake Tupper asked, “How far can this trade war go?”

Rollins said, “It's the art of trading, right? We only need to see Mexico and Canada, we need to look at China, but we also need to consider expanding the market. And we hope that one of the silver linings of the current trade war we are ongoing will become new trading partners like India, like Britain and the UK around the world. So why Trudeau and Mexico and this president, our president, are negotiating this, and they believe they will go to a good place. But while they're doing it, we're going to leave the world to find new export partners. And I think we'll get there.”
