Mark Kearney, Canada’s newly appointed prime minister, made his first official visit to the White House on Tuesday to meet with President Trump.
Just before Kearney’s arrival, Trump took to social media to voice his frustrations regarding Canada.
“Why does America subsidize Canada to the tune of $200 billion each year?” he questioned. “They rely on us for everything!” He also mentioned that Kearney’s visit would probably be his only significant encounter that day.
During their meeting, Kearney firmly stated that Canada was “not for sale.”
On Capitol Hill, several Cabinet members were busy defending their departmental budgets and presenting work reports.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent participated in a House Budget Committee oversight hearing, while Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem provided testimony in a similar setting. Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins appeared before the Senate budget hearing to discuss her department’s budget needs.
Meanwhile, House Republicans are diligently trying to reach a consensus on a settlement bill aimed at forwarding Trump’s agenda, while they also face pushback on proposed significant cuts to Medicaid funding.
Stay tuned for more updates throughout the day.
