Curtis Sliwa's determination to stay in the NYC mayoral race: Letters

Issue: Asking Curtis Sliwa to Withdraw from Mayoral Race to Help Andrew Cuomo Win

Please, Curtis Sliwa, stay in the race (“Defiant Curtis refuses ‘bribery’ and stands his ground,” October 22).

Republican voters in New York City should have the freedom to pick their preferred candidate.

Even if he were to exit, his name would still appear on the ballot. Honestly, I’d probably vote for him anyway, similar to most Republican voters.

Maybe if the New York Post and others urging him to withdraw had provided better coverage or at least some respect, he might have had a better shot.

I’m not voting for dishonest Democrats.

If they want to choose communists and ruin the city, that’s their choice.

In my view, Andrew Cuomo is just as bad as Zoran Mamdani.

It’s really disappointing that Mr. Sliwa can’t see that his pride shouldn’t undermine his next run for mayor.

The key point is that Mamdani would only wreak havoc on our city.

I agree that Mamdani isn’t the right choice for mayor, but the Post is targeting the wrong candidate to eliminate from this race.

Cuomo, frankly, is as problematic as Mamdani. He faced accusations of sexual harassment as governor and was involved in the coronavirus nursing home scandal.

It’s Cuomo who should be stepping aside.

His backers won’t support Mamdani either, so Sliwa could draw those votes and come out ahead.

I feel for Curtis.

He’s dedicated so much time and effort to our city, yet he’s being asked to allow it to be run by one of two terrible candidates and walk away.

I get why some people want him to bow out. It seems like a strategy to choose the “best of the worst” possible outcome.

It’s frustrating that Curtis hasn’t received stronger backing from the Republican Party or influential business figures in New York.

It’s not impossible for a Republican to win; they should have rallied behind Mr. Sliwa.

Curtis, you’re not Harry Truman, and this is definitely not 1948. In a city where Democrats vastly outnumber Republicans, staying in the race might just ensure Mamdani wins and brings chaos to New York.

Take a moment to think about it. Are you holding on for the city’s sake or out of stubbornness?

The Post’s editorial is really disappointing.

Cuomo should be the one stepping down (“Dropout, Curtis” editorial, Oct. 21). He sent COVID patients back to nursing homes, causing many deaths. He labeled ICE agents as “thugs” and said conservatives don’t belong in New York. His policies have been disastrous, and he resigned amid scandal.

Will he attempt to come back and further damage the city?

There are candidates who could fix the harm done and prevent more. Stop convincing yourself that he can’t win—support Curtis Sliwa.

Newspapers like the Post are meant to uphold the First Amendment, yet they attempt to silence Sliwa’s many supporters.

Polls may suggest that only Cuomo can defeat Mamdani, but sound principles remain unchanged regardless of polls.

The polls could be misleading, especially with undecided voters still in play.

Sure, Sliwa has flaws, but they pale compared to Cuomo’s and Mamdani’s issues.

Curtis, the bravery shown by you and the Guardian Angels is truly commendable.

Thank you, New York City.

Now, you face a tough choice.

But your chances of winning the mayoral race are minimal at best.

You really should consider stepping away. We can’t have dubious candidates winning this race.
