“I wonder what it means to make a nation 'anti-Trump'. For example, how do you make an American state 'anti-Trump'?” For example, what if you needed the president of the United States for something? I just don't understand what that means,” Charlamagne said. “Maybe you just need to hear it. Maybe you need to hear more details…if there’s a policy you don’t like. [President-elect Donald] Trump may enact it, he may make it happen. Don't talk about that person. ”
“Well, that's essentially what it is,” replied journalist Morzine Wood. “So Mr. Newsom is asking the California Legislature for $25 million to fund potential lawsuits if the Trump administration enacts rules that affect California policy.”
Charlamagne expressed support for the litigation effort, but reiterated his criticism of the “anti-Trump” rhetoric.
“I agree with that…but again, talk about policy. Because when you say things like, 'I'm against Trump,' you're like, “I'm against Trump,'' and when you need the president for something, you're like, “I agree with that.'' Because when you smile or sneer, you end up looking like a hypocrite, Mr. President. [Joe] “Biden was like, 'Welcome home,' after people had called him a 'threat to democracy,' and stuff like that, but when it was his turn in the White House, he was like, 'Welcome back.' “So cut it out.”
California is considered “Sanctuary” jurisdictions for statewide policies prohibiting cooperation between local law enforcement officers and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Newsom is one of several Democratic governors and other liberal politicians who have vowed to resist President Trump's hardline immigration policies.
California sued the Trump administration more than 100 times on issues including climate, immigration and health care. According to To CalMatters.
In November, Charlamagne seriously considered Trump a “threat to democracy” and a “fascist” because of his optimistic comments about the next president after Biden's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. I wondered if that was the case.
