D.C. Man on Moped Assaulted Police Officers, Resulting in Concussion

On Sunday, the White House reportedly suggested that the media misrepresented an incident involving a police arrest of a man on a moped in Washington, D.C. They claimed the man had violently resisted arrest amid allegations of aggressive behavior.

The initial stories from Washington Post and Politics indicated that the president’s anti-crime efforts had led to the arrest of an innocent moped rider.

“Yesterday morning, a group of masked officers arrested a moped driver near 14th Avenue NW. Bystanders, gathered outside a nearby coffee shop and condo, filmed the exchange. It has been reported by Politics.

One officer asked rhetorically, “‘Do I have to answer you?’” to which another replied, “You have to answer someone.” The officer didn’t give his badge number. They took the moped driver to an unmarked SUV, leaving observers curious about his fate. Meanwhile, the brunch crowd at Le Diplomat continued as if nothing happened.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated in a post on X that reporters didn’t seek comments from the administration. She claimed that the arrested man identified himself as a gang member and injured an officer during the arrest.

“Today’s Politico Playbook seems to imply that federal law enforcement randomly arrested an innocent ‘moped driver’ out of fear,” she wrote. “Had Politico contacted the White House, they would have learned that this ‘moped driver’ was an undocumented criminal from Venezuela with suspected gang connections and aggressive orders.”

“Following his arrest, the foreign suspect resisted and caused injuries to the law enforcement officials,” she added.
