DA indicted after shooting at fugitive, striking home with kids inside: police

A Tennessee grand jury has indicted a district attorney for allegedly firing at a fleeing suspect on Nov. 21 and eventually robbing a home occupied by a woman and her three children, state officials said. did.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced in a press release that a DeKalb County grand jury on Monday indicted 31st Judicial District Attorney Christopher Robert Stanford on one count of reckless endangerment.

“The investigation revealed that while pursuing a wanted fugitive, Stanford University fired several shots on Bell Street in Smithville, striking a home occupied by a woman and her three children.” This is stated in TBI's press release.

According to an indictment obtained by FOX News Digital, Stanford “unlawfully, intentionally and recklessly” fired a gun that struck a chair on the home's front porch, went through the front living room wall and struck the occupants. He is said to have put him at risk of death. or may cause serious injury. The indictment also states that no one inside the home was injured in the shooting.

The fugitive pursued by Stanford University appears to be connected to a triple murder on November 20th.

On November 21, the TBI began investigating the incident involving Stanford, according to 13th Judicial District Attorney Bryant Dunaway. Stanford allegedly “fired while attempting to arrest a man named Caleb Brookins on an outstanding warrant in Warren County, Tennessee.”

On November 21, the TBI began investigating the incident involving Stanford, according to 13th Judicial District Attorney Bryant Dunaway. On the morning of Nov. 20, Warren County Sheriff's Office personnel discovered three deceased people on Merry Oaks Road. According to the Warren County Sheriff's Office, authorities initially arrested the first suspect, Jessica Root, in connection with the three murders and eventually determined that Brookins, the second suspect, was being driven by Rose. It was announced that the body was found in the car.

A Homeland Security employee was injured during Brookins' arrest on Nov. 21.

Brookins and Root are charged with three counts of criminal homicide, and Rose is charged with felony aggravated assault and evading arrest for hitting a law enforcement officer with his vehicle while fleeing.

Stanford turned himself in to the DeKalb County Jail earlier this week and was released after posting $10,000 bail.
