DA Nathan Hochman promises that offenders will be held accountable in LA

The Los Angeles District Attorney, Nathan Hochman, has intensified efforts to hold criminals accountable across the area, asserting that he bears “full responsibility for their misconduct.”

Hochman, a former federal prosecutor, won his position over the previous progressive prosecutor George Gascon by a significant 20-point margin. Many voters believed that crime had escalated under Gascon’s leadership.

“I find myself at the junction of LA and San Bernardino counties, an area where criminals believed they could operate freely moving into LA without consequence,” Hochman remarked in a video shared on his X account. “Times have changed! A new DA is here, and now LA County criminals will be prosecuted and made to answer for their actions,” he added.

Hochman, who emphasizes a balanced approach to the law, has criticized both Gascon’s mass incarceration policies and the lack of accountability for juvenile offenders in the wake of rising crime rates.

He has also previously served as president of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, criticizing Gascon’s leadership as “devastating incompetence” during his campaign, promising to restore order.

Gascon faced two recall attempts, reflecting public discontent over his policies, including his backing of Proposition 47 in 2014, which reduced many theft-related felonies to misdemeanors if the stolen amount was under $950.

Despite differing political views among the community, Hochman believes that public safety remains a unifying concern. He noted, “I’ve spoken with everyone from liberals to conservative Republicans. They all agree on the need for the district attorney to prioritize safety and demand responsibility from criminals.”

It’s worth mentioning that when Hochman referred to California criminals, he was not discussing immigrants crossing the US-Mexico border.
