A Florida dad, Craig Stowell, recently went viral after sharing his experience of spending around $1,400 in a single day at Walt Disney World. His comments on rising costs in Disney Parks have stirred considerable discussion online. He believes there are more budget-friendly alternatives for families looking to enjoy theme parks without breaking the bank.
Craig and a family friend decided on a last-minute trip to Disney and he felt overwhelmed by the prices. He remarked that it seems like Disney wants visitors to stay on-site and not leave, creating a rather limiting experience compared to how he remembered it as a kid.
With a hefty daily expenditure, Craig found himself having tough conversations with his kids about money, emphasizing how the costs could impact future savings, especially for his 15-year-old son who is trying to save for a car.
He warned that many American families are finding it increasingly difficult to afford trips to Disney, with daily admission prices starting at $119, making it the most expensive among major parks. He suggests exploring other Central Florida options that might be more accessible.
For instance, SeaWorld Orlando offers a four-park pass for just $62, allowing access to several attractions, and even Universal Orlando provides a cheaper day pass at $109.
Adding to his frustration, Craig criticized Disney’s introduction of dynamic pricing this year, which adjusts ticket prices based on demand. On busy days, tickets can soar to $169 or more.
He mentioned that during his visit, he ended up paying $184 per ticket instead of the advertised price, feeling as though Disney was capitalizing on families’ desire to enjoy the park. Additionally, he pointed out the extra costs associated with using Express Passes to skip long lines.
In his view, families seeking budget-friendly options won’t be disappointed if they look beyond Disney, stating there are many welcoming and affordable parks available.
No More Surges
Craig’s critiques extend to Disney’s future plans to implement even more dynamic pricing, which he feels unfairly burdens parents. He believes that visiting Disney shouldn’t feel like a financial strain, and he hopes families consider alternatives to enjoy a day of fun.
