Daily Beast Issues Apology to Melania Trump

The Daily Beast has publicly apologized to First Lady Melania Trump and has retracted a controversial article alleging that she was connected to her husband, President Donald Trump, through a modeling agent linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The publication acknowledged that the story, which was based on claims from journalist Michael Wolf, did not comply with its editorial standards. After receiving legal threats from the First Lady’s legal team regarding the “headlines and framing,” the article was taken down in July. On Monday, the Daily Beast issued a formal apology, which Melania Trump shared on X.

The statement began: “Recently, The Daily Beast published an interview regarding the Epstein scandal. Based on an interview with Michael Wolf, the article suggested that ‘Melania Trump’ was ‘very involved.’

The outlet stated it had also removed some segments from a podcast titled “Trump’s Epstein Scandal Will Not Stop,” in response to a letter from the First Lady’s lawyer. The statement emphasized that Melania’s bestselling book, “Melania,” serves as a definitive account of her life story. They expressed regret to both the First Lady and their readership.

Wolf’s original allegations were made during a podcast interview with Joanna Coles, The Daily Beast’s Chief Content Officer, where they were discussing the connections among Trump, Epstein, and others. Wolf had claimed that Epstein was significantly involved in introducing Melania to Trump, suggesting a modeling agent connection.

Interestingly, Wolf has faced skepticism about his credibility in journalism. Previous reports have drawn scrutiny, and back in 2018, he was criticized for claims about Trump’s alleged infidelities, which ultimately led to public speculation surrounding certain individuals, including former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Wolf did not respond immediately to requests for comment following the apology, and his reporting history has seen some backlash within the journalism community.

In a subsequent interview on “Morning Joe,” Wolf refuted claims that Haley had any connections to Trump, yet the media storm continues, with several individuals within Trump’s circle denying their quotes were used accurately in Wolf’s earlier works.
