Orlando, Florida, police have arrested the former fiancé of Michelle Parker, a woman who vanished in 2011 shortly after a public argument aired on “The People’s Court.” Dale Smith Jr., aged 55, was taken into custody on Wednesday and faces a charge of second-degree murder in relation to Parker’s death. Although her body has not been found, authorities state that “all evidence leads to Dale Smith Jr. as the person responsible for Michelle’s murder.”
This development comes 15 years after Parker last made an appearance on November 17, 2011, when she dropped off her twins with Smith. Intriguingly, Parker disappeared shortly after a recorded episode of “The People’s Court” aired, in which the couple resolved a dispute regarding a $5,000 engagement ring.
Parker, who had previously described Smith as “pretty malicious and vindictive,” recounted an incident in court where, in a tense moment, she removed the ring and threw it at him. Their relationship was characterized by its ups and downs, according to friends.
Parker was reported missing when she didn’t show up for work. Alarmingly, when her brother, Dustin, texted to check on her, he received a one-word reply: “Waterford.” This was deemed unusual by family members, who noted she typically didn’t text like that.
Days after her disappearance, her abandoned Hummer was located near an apartment complex with the decal for her airbrush-tanning business removed. Additionally, her iPhone was discovered about four miles from her residence in a lake by a diving team.
For years, police had considered Smith a prime suspect, but difficulties in gathering solid evidence hindered an arrest. However, a significant breakthrough occurred after an extensive investigative effort over the past year. Authorities credited a newly expanded investigative team that revisited old evidence and incorporated advancements in digital forensics.
Detective Phil McMickin noted in a recent press conference that Smith had been interviewed multiple times throughout the years. In those discussions, he provided inconsistent answers to specific questions regarding the case, which raised further suspicions.
Smith’s defense attorney has been contacted for comment, but as of now, the investigation remains ongoing.
