Dallas police officer Karissa David blinded in both eyes after fellow cop Darron Burks is ‘executed’ in targeted attack

A Texas police officer was killed in an execution-style killing of another officer when a gunman fired multiple rounds at her, hitting her in the face and leaving her blind in both eyes.

Dallas Police Sergeant Carisa David was released from the hospital on Sept. 19, but her family said she will continue to require outpatient treatment for the next few months.

On August 29, 30-year-old Corey Cobb Bey opened fire on David in a parking lot at Oak Cliff Community Campus, critically wounding him.

David responded to the scene where Cobb Bey shot Officer Daron Burks, who was sitting in his car between calls. According to Dallas police.

Police said dispatchers dispatched officers to the community center in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive just after 10 p.m. after receiving “an unusual transmission from Officer Burks' radio.”

Sergeant Major Jamie Farmer was the first to arrive and was immediately fired upon by Cobb Bay, who was armed with a 9mm handgun, a .22 caliber handgun, and two shotguns.

Farmer fought back and ran through the parking lot, where Cobb-Bey grabbed a shotgun and fired one shot, hitting Farmer in the leg.

Cobb Bey then ran toward David's vehicle, which was parked at the entrance to the parking lot, got out and began firing several shots.

David fought back but was shot in the face.

As the gunman pursued the officers, three officers were wounded and taken to a hospital, where Burks was pronounced dead.

David was initially listed in critical but stable condition, while Farmer was treated for his wounds and released from hospital the following day.

“She is currently blind in both eyes and we ask for continued prayers for a miracle in that regard,” David's family said. Share on GoFundMe page.

David, who recently married his husband Josh, is due to return to hospital soon for “major surgery.”

The family's fundraising efforts have raised about $84,000, which will be used to renovate the newlyweds' home and buy equipment to help David's failing eyesight.

“There are AI glasses, a guide dog, a screen reader, smart appliances and countless other gadgets that will enrich her life for the foreseeable future,” her family said.

Cobb Bey was shot and killed by police in Louisville, 25 miles from the shooting scene, after he got out of his car and pointed a shotgun at officers who were pursuing him.

He was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said Burks was “executed” in a targeted attack.

“Our officers have been targeted solely because of the uniform they wear and the brave and honorable job they do,” he said. “I want to be very clear here: the word ambush has been thrown around a lot in the last 24 hours. That is not what happened here. Officer Burks was executed.”
