Damon Lindelof calls on Biden to drop out of race, asks donors to withhold funding

Damon Lindelof, a Hollywood showrunner and longtime Democratic donor, Deadline article He called on President Biden to resign and urged Democrats to “stop” funding candidates who need to drop out of the race.

“My name is Damon Lindelof,” he wrote. “I am a lifelong Democrat and I love our complex and wonderful country. I am writing this anonymously because I would like others of influence to do the same.”

“I don’t know if what I say makes sense, but I know what my eyes, ears and heart are telling me,” he added. “I’ve been asleep at the wheel, and it’s time to wake up.”

The television writer and producer, who has contributed heavily to Democratic campaigns including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Biden, called last week’s CNN presidential debate “a true game changer” and argued that it is money that gives people the power to create change and influence the decisions of those in power.

Biden has faced intense scrutiny following his disastrous June 27 debate with former President Trump, with some calling for him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Biden, who at 81 is the oldest president in U.S. history, has come under intense scrutiny from politicians, commentators, political pundits and party donors amid concerns about his cognitive ability and his ability to serve as the nation’s commander in chief.

“When a country does not behave the way we want it to, we impose tough economic sanctions. It’s give and take, and short-term pain means long-term healing,” Lindelof wrote.

“When they email me asking for cash, I’ll write back saying I’m not giving them a penny, I’m not changing my mind until I get change on the top of the ticket,” he added, “and when Joe finally leaves the mound, I’ll stand up and applaud him, because he pitched a really good game.”

If that happens, Lindelof said he will “double the check.”

“May God bless you who made it through this stream of conscientious consciousness… and may God bless America,” he concluded.
