Dan Hurley Celebrates Big Win in Towel
After the thrilling upset against the Duke Blue Devils, UConn’s head coach Dan Hurley found a unique way to celebrate. In the locker room, following a nail-biting finish where freshman guard Braylon Mullins made a clutch 30-foot three-pointer just before the buzzer, Hurley was spotted wearing nothing but a towel around his waist. It was quite the sight, especially considering the circumstances.
The game was intense, with UConn trailing at halftime by a score of 44-25. It seemed as though Duke might run away with it. Hurley rallied his team, asking center Taris Reed to step up, which he did, leading the comeback with an impressive 26 points.
Hurley has a superstition during March Madness, donning the same navy suit, down to the shirt and socks, for every game. There’s even a pair of underwear he calls Lucky Red Dragon’s that he insists on wearing. “I think it’s at the dry cleaners,” he joked, referencing his ritualistic attire since he first began this tradition last March.
For Hurley, perhaps this is just a charming quirk, a way to keep the Huskies’ winning spirit alive. After all, they’ve made it back to the Final Four despite not being ranked as top prospects. Once he got showered with celebratory drinks from his players, he knew he would have some work to do in the laundry department.
Looking ahead, the Huskies are set to face the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday. Earlier this year, UConn bested them, but as always, anything can happen in the tournament. Fingers crossed for another victory!
