Boom becomes dynamite!
On Wednesday, as the 25th-ranked Huskies defeated the 15th-ranked Baylor Bears, an excited Dan Hurley was hit with a header by college guard Aidan Mahaney after the junior connected on back-to-back tries from behind the arc. I gave a thrust.
of Dome-on-dome contactsThe moment of intrigue and concern occurred with about 10 minutes left in the first half.
The Bears had an early 19-8 lead, but a 10-2 run, including two 3-pointers by Mahaney, cut the reigning national champions to three points, forcing a Baylor timeout.
As the home fans went wild and the Bears reminisced on the sideline, Mahaney strode up to head coach Hurley. The two shared something between a hug and a chest bump, quickly followed by a headbutt.
“after that [Mahaney] I got hit in the chest so hard…I think I cracked my ribs,” Hurley joked after the game.
By that time, any pain had disappeared.
After managing to get back into the game in the first half, the Huskies hardly looked back. When the teams returned to the locker room at intermission, the Bears held a narrow one-point lead, but trailed 40-35 in the second half.
“He rose like a phoenix from the ashes,'' Hurley told reporters after the game, arms flapping like wings, as he praised Mahaney's nine-point performance.
The 21-year-old said of their interaction, “We felt like we were in the moment. Nothing was planned. It was just the natural energy and aggression coming out of both of us. ” he said.
“Having a coach like that who is as passionate as the players is one of the things I can't wait to get here,” Mahaney added.
Fans and detractors decried:
“Is this normal?” one person asked.
Another wrote, “Dan Hurley's skull crushed me into another dimension.”
Hurley's Huskies, in his seventh year leading the UW men's basketball team, won six of their first nine games. It couldn't have been better than Wednesday's takedown, giving him his first win over a 2024 ranked opponent.
And this time it couldn't have come at a better time.
UW was winless at the Maui Invitational, losing games to the Memphis Tigers, Colorado Buffaloes, and Dayton Flyers, all of whom were unranked. Hurley was criticized for his temperament and body language during the tournament.
In the 99-97 loss to Memphis, the head coach was called for a foul in overtime and was given a technical foul.
But with Wednesday's win, the electrical factory that is college basketball is heating up even more.
Pay attention to the amount.
