Dan Le Batard claims Disney is moving closer to 'state-run media' with the Kimmel decision

Former ESPN Radio host Dan Le Batard criticized Disney’s Bob Iger for taking Jimmy Kimmel off the air after Kimmel made controversial remarks regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk. On Monday, Kimmel labeled the “Maga Gang” as having reached a “new low,” trying to frame 22-year-old suspect Tyler Robinson as “other than one of them.” Le Batard remarked that the removal of Kimmel suggests a move “dangerously close to state-run media.”

He stated that Kimmel lacks the protection that Disney offers, contending that “the corporate interests of the media” place them in a position where even Iger cannot resist outside pressures. The implication was that new compromises are being made that pose a significant threat to media integrity.

Le Batard connected Trump’s $16 million settlement with ABC to the broader issue of media propaganda, arguing it reflects an encroaching threat to journalistic freedom. He voiced concern over the media climate, noting that while private companies are not bound by free speech rules, the current situation seems unprecedented.

Kimmel’s comments followed statements from FBI officials and Utah Governor Spencer Cox suggesting that Robinson’s left-wing ideology has become increasingly radicalized. It was also revealed that Robinson is biologically male and has a romantic relationship with a transgender partner.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr criticized Kimmel’s remarks as “sick acts,” hinting at possible regulatory actions against Disney if the controversy is not adequately addressed. He expressed worry that narratives are being manipulated under the guise of media coverage, labeling it a major public interest issue.

Nexstar Media Group has announced it will pre-empt Kimmel’s show on ABC affiliates to replace it with different programming focused on his remarks about Robinson. Kirk, 31, was fatally shot while speaking at an event, leading to widespread mourning across the nation.

Funeral services for Kirk are scheduled for September 21 in Glendale, Arizona.
