Democratic Strategist Calls for Rethink on Rhetoric After Assassination

During a recent meeting, former Democratic strategist Dan Trenine suggested that the party should reconsider labeling President Donald Trump as a “fascist,” especially in light of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. This incident has sparked intense discussions about political language and its potential consequences.

Trenine noted how figures like Kamala Harris and Texas House Rep. Jasmine Crockett have employed terms like “fascist” and “Hitler” when discussing Trump, particularly following Kirk’s death. He expressed concern that such heated rhetoric could incite violence and argued that it’s vital for the party to address these issues promptly. “We need to say, ‘This is unacceptable,’” he remarked, urging party leaders to take a clearer stance.

He commended independent Senator Bernie Sanders for his call against political violence post-assassination but urged the Democratic Party to take stronger actions. “Some leaders need to admit they were wrong,” Trenine stated. He emphasized a need to “lower the temperature” in political discourse, highlighting the importance of winning arguments through ideas and votes rather than hostility.

On a different front, Crockett defended her use of the term “aspiring Hitler” for Trump during a Friday show, arguing that it’s not necessarily an incitement to violence. Her rationale revolved around critiquing Trump’s rhetoric without urging anyone to harm others.

Following assaults during the election campaign, Trump has survived two assassination attempts. Meanwhile, Kirk, who was addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University when he was killed, had been engaging in civil discussions with students.

In a press conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that anti-fascist messages were found on ammunition recovered near the scene, indicating troubling undertones to the assassination.
