Trump, UFC Set to Celebrate 250th Birthday with Event at White House
Recently, plans were revealed for an upcoming UFC event at the White House to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. UFC president Dana White shared his thoughts on the announcement, expressing some skepticism about whether Trump would actually mention it publicly. Still, momentum for the event appears to be building.
While White has been discussing possible matchups, it’s uncertain at this stage if these are anything beyond speculation. “That’s definitely going to happen,” he told the Associated Press. He emphasized that, on the United States’ 250th birthday, UFC will be showcasing an event live from the South Lawn.
I mean, just imagine that.
During a podcast, White jokingly referred to it as “the worst card ever” and confirmed that John Jones, who recently retired, is back in the drug testing pool. Interestingly, he mentioned that everyone seems eager to participate in this event. “Literally everyone,” White said during his podcast, the “Full Send Podcast.”
This week, Jones confirmed he’ll be competing at the White House event, which is kind of surprising but exciting. His reaction to Trump’s announcement? “The moment I heard it, I started training again,” he shared on a recent post.
Conor McGregor has also shown interest in joining the card, with White suggesting that he could potentially fight alongside Jones. Over the years, Trump has frequently attended UFC events, including his recent appearance at UFC 316.
In a significant shift, the UFC will soon be abandoning its pay-per-view model under a new $7.7 billion broadcasting deal with Paramount. The deal will see 13 major events and 30 fight nights available on Paramount+, with select events airing on CBS, all without any extra fees for fans watching UFC numbered contests.
Seems like it’s going to be a pretty notable year ahead for both the UFC and the White House.
