Giants’ Wan’Dale Robinson Gets Aid from Darius Slayton’s Return
PHILADELPHIA — As the Giants prepare for their rematch against the Eagles this Sunday, Wan’Dale Robinson looks forward to some extra support with Darius Slayton returning after a two-game absence due to a hamstring injury.
In the previous game against Denver, Robinson was the standout among wide receivers, catching six passes from 12 targets, which, honestly, says a lot about the team’s struggles when he was the only receiver to make a reception.
Other wideouts like Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Jalin Hiatt, and Beau Collins went without any catches, and, well, tight ends Theo Johnson and Daniel Bellinger contributing six catches isn’t quite what you want when the wide receivers aren’t involved much at all.
“It’s definitely tough. I mean, if we could score 30 points, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, but we really need to mix things up more,” Robinson shared candidly.
With Slayton sidelined, Robinson had taken on the role of primary target for rookie quarterback Jackson Dart, racking up 12 receptions for 179 yards and finding the end zone over the last couple of games.
Slayton acknowledged Robinson’s efforts, saying, “He’s done a fantastic job. There’s this stereotype about smaller players, and he defies that completely. Last couple of Sundays, he’s really stepped up for us.”
Slayton, however, has had a rocky start this season—just 12 catches for 179 yards through the first five games, plus a fumble in New Orleans, which marked the last time he participated until now. He seems eager to make an impact again.
“Having another proven player helps a lot. It forces the defense to respect us more, which opens things up,” Robinson added.
Looking forward to the matchup, one question remains: will Dexter Lawrence finally get his first sack this season? The Eagles will be missing center Cam Jurgens due to a knee issue, as well as former Giants cornerback Adoree Jackson (concussion) and running back Azeez Ojulari (hamstring).
Brandon Graham, a veteran defensive lineman, recently came out of retirement but won’t be playing this week. Brian Barnes, who shined last week with two sacks against Denver, joins a select group of players since 2000 to achieve at least 7.5 sacks in their first seven seasons, alongside Pro Football Hall of Famers like Jared Allen and DeMarcus Ware.
In their last encounter in Week 6, the Giants held the edge in special teams—performing better in kickoff and punt returns and winning the field position battle.
“Of course, we want to improve on our previous performance at MetLife. Gobi is doing an incredible job with the special teams, credit to his work,” remarked Eagles special teams coordinator Michael Clay, recognizing how the Giants have stepped up in that area.
As for the Giants, kicker Graham Gano is set to be placed on injured reserve, making way for another player to take on the kicking duties against the Eagles. Gano has been recovering from groin tightness that sidelined him for the last five games. To accommodate changes, LB Swayze Bowman was waived from the roster.
Additionally, WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey and S Raheem Laine have been activated from the practice squad, especially since Jevon Holland is out with a knee injury.
