Darryl Strawberry shares a message for Pete Alonso of the Mets.

Pete Alonso is now a standout figure in Mets history, having just set the franchise’s home run record with his 253rd career homer at Citifield on Tuesday night. Daryl Strawberry, who previously held the record, expressed his support for Alonso in a heartfelt video message shared on the Mets’ X-Feed.

“Hey Pete, Daryl Strawberry here. I want to celebrate you breaking the home run record,” Strawberry said. “You’ve really put in the work, dealt with the pressures of New York City, and performed admirably.”

“Congratulations! This is a huge accomplishment. Wishing you all the best, buddy.”

Strawberry, who spent eight seasons with the Mets from 1983 to 1990, won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1986 and contributed to the team’s World Series victory that same year, finishing his career in New York with 252 home runs.

In addition to setting the record, Alonso also hit a solo home run, marking his 27th of the season in just 119 games in 2025.

After tying Strawberry’s mark over the weekend, Alonso reflected on their growing connection, saying, “It’s great that we have a face-to-face relationship. He really fits into the culture of this organization.”

Now, after a standout performance against Braves ace Spencer Strider, Alonso not only holds the new record but also has the chance to extend it even further in the remaining part of the season.
