Kamala Harris’s 2028 Presidential Chances Dwindling
CNN’s chief data analyst, Harry Enten, stated on Friday that former Vice President Kamala Harris, now a Democratic candidate for the 2028 presidential race, is facing long odds.
During a segment on “CNN News Central,” Enten referenced the Kalshi Betting Market, which had Harris’s odds at just 6%. He pointed out that other Democrats, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, seem to have stronger prospects than Harris.
“Honestly, it looks like Kamala Harris won’t be the Democratic candidate in 2028. Her odds don’t seem too great right now,” he remarked.
He elaborated, saying, “According to the betting market, my top pick is Gavin Newsom at 20%. Don’t discount Ocasio-Cortez; she’s at 15%. Meanwhile, Harris is trailing far behind at 6%, which puts her in fourth place. If there’s any thought that she’s setting aside a run for California governor in 2026, it may not help her presidential aspirations.”
Harris announced on Wednesday that she wouldn’t be running for governor of California but hasn’t dismissed her ambitions for the 2028 presidential election. In her announcement, she expressed enthusiasm for supporting Democrats nationwide and hinted at sharing future plans.
It’s worth noting that during the last presidential election, she lost in several key states to Donald Trump and received only 844 votes in the Democratic primary in 2020, resulting in zero delegates.
After Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 race, she became a candidate later that year, supported by him on July 21.
Additionally, she recently announced her upcoming book titled “107 Days,” which focuses on her brief 2024 presidential campaign, with a release set for September.
Political analyst Mark Halperin suggested that Harris might consider stepping away from politics altogether. “It’s tough to see her running for president again, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she moves on,” he noted.
