Daughters of the American Revolution Admits Men as Members

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a genealogy organization celebrating women descended from those who fought for American independence over 250 years ago, recently decided to allow men to join. This is a significant shift for the 135-year-old institution.

During its 135th Continental Congress, a proposed resolution that aimed to define “woman” strictly as a person born female was overwhelmingly rejected, with a vote tally of 1,481 against and 984 in favor. Leadership at DAR has permitted men who identify as women to join the organization, and there are currently five such members.

Stuckey, representing a group opposing this decision, expressed concerns, stating, “The Wakesters have now achieved institutional control of one of our oldest and most historic institutions here in the United States.” While she acknowledged that conservatives have seen some recent successes, she warned that the influence of “wokeness” is still very much alive and may resurface strongly, particularly in upcoming elections.

Stuckey noted that unless this influence is “completely eradicated,” it “keeps coming back like mold.” She remarked, “Don’t be under any illusions that wokeness and progressivism has waned. It’s going to come back with a vengeance, especially in the midterm elections and if they gain political power in 2028.”

The resolution put forth by the group Daughters Advocating for Restoration clarified that “woman” should mean only those born female. This resolution aimed to exclude not only transgender women but also men who change their birth certificates from male to female from membership eligibility.

The current bylaws of the organization state that members must be women, but the definition of “woman” was never specified, which enabled this recent change in membership policy. Stuckey emphasized the importance of clearly defining terms, especially for Christians, stating, “We should be bastions of courage and clarity.”

She continued, “There are lots of individuals looking to cause disruption. It creates chaos, often under the guise of empathy or kindness. Many simply want clarity and to be told what is real.” According to her, “That’s where Christians come in.”
