Davante Adams on LeBron James’ Potential in Football
NFL wide receiver Davante Adams has expressed his belief that if LeBron James had chosen to play football, he would have been a standout player. During an appearance on the “Dampatrick Show,” Adams was asked how he envisioned the NBA star transitioning to the gridiron, prompting him to heap praise on James.
Adams remarked, “He would have been one of the best receivers, perhaps even the greatest of all time. And he definitely has speed. I’ve never seen anyone cover so much ground on a basketball court like he does. He’s comparable to guys like John Wall or Derrick Rose, but, you know, in a different way.” It’s interesting to think how his skills would translate to football.
Although James played football in high school at St. Vincent St. Mary in Ohio, he focused entirely on basketball and didn’t pursue football further. Still, Adams argues he could have excelled beyond high school if he had continued. In March, James himself compared his potential on the football field to that of Randy Moss or Rob Gronkowski.
Adams humorously noted, “Bron won’t help his lawsuit,” referring to the reality check a basketball player might face when heading into the NFL. He added, “I think there’s a bit of strategy behind his comments; he’s probably not getting hit hard every time.” This kind of light banter adds a bit of complexity to the debate about athletes switching sports.
To date, Adams has played in 164 games, making 957 catches for 11,844 yards, and scoring 103 touchdowns. He spent last season with both the Raiders and Jets and recently signed a two-year, $46 million contract with the Rams. It’s quite a journey, reflecting the challenges and triumphs of professional sports.
