Dave Chappelle’s attacker Isaiah Lee sues Hollywood Bowl, security 2 years after he stormed stage: report

The deranged man who attacked Dave Chappelle on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in 2022 is back on the streets and taking legal action against the venue and its security.

Isaiah Lee claims that the Los Angeles Amphitheater security team brutally beat him, spat on him and intentionally dislocated his elbow, according to court records. Obtained by TMZ.

Lee, who is suing for security negligence and assault, also claims the venue allowed the assault by Chappelle’s entourage.

Lee’s lawsuit was filed two years after Chappell came forward as a freak because his jokes about the LGBTQ community and homelessness were “triggered.”

Shocking video of the attack shows Chappelle walking around the stage when Lee appears from outside the frame and tackles the comedian, knocking him to the ground.

Seconds after the attack, security came to Chappelle’s aid and followed Lee off the stage.

Chappelle was not injured in the attack and continued on the show, quipping that the suspect was “a trans man.”

During the attack on May 3, 2022, a fake gun containing a real knife fell out of the man’s pocket, but it was never used on the comedian.

Lee also claims that the venue knew that Chappell was known for telling offensive jokes targeting specific groups, including the LGTBQ community, and that the security team was aware that any harm would be done. The newspaper reported that more should have been done to prevent this.

Lee was originally arrested on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon, but he pleaded no contest to assault and entering a restricted area, both misdemeanors, and was sentenced to 270 days in jail in December 2022.

He avoided the felony rap because he did not possess a fake gun or knife at the time of the attack.

As part of his post-release conditions, Lee was ordered to have no contact or approach Chappelle, not to possess any dangerous weapons, and not to consume controlled substances or alcohol. According to ABC7.

“I wanted him to know that next time, he should first consider showing his work to the people he might influence,” Lee told the Post.

Lee said the attack on Chappelle was inspired by Will Smith’s infamous slap on Chris Rock at the Oscar ceremony.

“That’s not true. [Chris Rock] He called his wife GI Jane,” Lee said, adding that Smith was standing up for his wife.

“I wanted him to know that next time, he should first consider letting people he might influence run his work,” Lee argued. “I wanted Dave Chappelle and people to know that they should be more sensitive about these things and that it’s not a joke.”

Mr. Chappelle, now 50, was performing as part of the “Netflix Is a Joke” festival when the disturbance broke out around 10:45 p.m., toward the end of his stand-up show.
