Flippo’s Campaign in Northern Nevada

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Dave Flippo is no stranger to challenges. With a career that saw him deployed worldwide, including crucial roles in Iraq before the 2003 invasion, he now faces a significant political fight in several competitive Republican-leaning districts in northern Nevada.

Nevada stands out as a key battleground state west of the Mississippi. With a rapidly growing economy and an increasing population, it showcases the typical political divide between urban and rural areas.

In the recent primaries, Flippo claimed the Republican nomination despite facing a candidate backed by the political establishment within the Nevada state legislature.

“The North is an R+7 district, and Trump won it by just 14 votes,” Flippo noted. “It’s a conservative area, and President Trump backed me against an establishment candidate. Clearly, conservative voters in northern Nevada wanted someone aligned with their values.”

Although Flippo has never held elected office, he sees his outsider status as a potential strength. “I defeated the establishment. People are tired of politicians who lean moderate. They want fighters in Congress,” he shared. “We need representatives who will stand up for Nevadans and the American people.”

His military background informs his views, especially regarding international policy. He believes Trump’s strategies are aimed at resolving long-standing conflicts rather than initiating new ones. “Some media claims Trump is inciting a new war with Iran, but I see it differently—his approach is about ending years of conflict,” he asserted.

Flippo emphasized the need for conservative values among voters in Northern Nevada as the national debt rises alarmingly. “We must aim for a balanced budget and tackle this deficit. Being $39 trillion in debt is unacceptable,” he argued. He believes the government should curb its expansion, insisting it must focus on its foundational purposes and leave other responsibilities to the states.

Illegal immigration also ranks high on his agenda. He perceives it through an economic lens, linking rising housing costs to policies introduced in recent years. “Over the last six years, millions have crossed the border under the current administration. This influx contributes to increased housing demand, impacting services and finances for taxpayers,” he explained.

Despite the Republican lean of his district, Flippo acknowledges the strength of his opponent, former Assembly Majority Leader Teresa Benitez Thompson. Yet, he remains confident that his conservative platform will appeal to voters who recognize the stark differences in their views.

He expressed his dissent towards Thompson’s record, describing her as a proponent of big government and increased taxes. “She has voted to raise taxes numerous times and supported policies that I believe don’t reflect the needs of our community,” he said.

Ultimately, Flippo feels that Trump’s endorsement will benefit his campaign. “In my district, Trump has influence. It’s vital to align with key figures and leverage support to secure a victory,” he concluded.
