Several prominent sports commentators have focused on Notre Dame football and wondered why Notre Dame continues to receive so many television appearances and media attention when it hasn’t won a national title in nearly 40 years. It’s questionable.
The accusations against the Fighting Irish come after the College Football Playoff was officially expanded to 12 teams for next college football season.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith guided The attack on Notre Dame was due to questions about why this team has always been the focus of media discussion and why it continues to receive lucrative television contracts to broadcast games. new york post report.
“They haven’t won a national title since 1988, so 36 years,” Smith explained. “Thirty-six years ago, pup, I was graduating high school. I had an Afro. [My] My hairline was two feet in front of me. ”

Smith went on to ask why everyone is paying attention to Notre Dame when it hasn’t had a delivery in decades.
“What the hell have they done? Are we on national TV? He said Notre Dame was more on TV than Georgia, which had a much better record last season.” I asked, pointing out that it would happen.
“Everywhere you look, we’re talking about Notre Dame. It was on national television,” Smith said. “Has anyone asked NBC why they gave this TV deal to NBC? What did they do? What did they do? I’m still waiting.”
Sports commentator Dave Portnoy echoed Smith’s sentiments, agreeing wholeheartedly.
“Stephen A is truly awful. ND is a relic of the past,” Portnoy wrote to X. But I’m not interested in ancient history. To be considered a premier program, Natty must be earned before the horse and carriage era. ”

While it’s true that Notre Dame hasn’t won a national title in a long time, the team frequently competes for championships. ND defeated Oregon State 40-8 in the Sun Bowl last season. The school maintained a 10-3 record in the 2023 season.
