USMNT’s Disappointing Loss Sparks Outrage
We were promised a “golden generation,” but, well, it feels more like fool’s gold—just ask Dave Portnoy.
The founder of Barstool Sports is clearly frustrated with the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) after their “embarrassing” defeat to Belgium. Can you really blame him?
The USMNT faced Belgium and, despite a standing ovation earlier that night, the outcome was dismal. They were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 4-1 loss. The night’s grim highlight seemed to be our goalkeeper, who inadvertently facilitated Belgium’s scoring spree.
Portnoy was quick to react after the game, expressing disdain for the team’s performance. He tweeted, “U.S. Soccer is not ready for prime time. I don’t want to be mean, but this team is embarrassing. As long as D-tier players play, there’s no way this sport will actually get any better. What a clown show.”
His frustration didn’t stop at Twitter. In a video, he criticized the team further, stating, “An embarrassing effort by the US. The lights were too bright for the American soccer team. If soccer is going to continue to cause international incidents, it may be time to institute a soccer draft.”
It’s hard not to share Dave Portnoy’s sentiment. The performance left a bad taste in many fans’ mouths. We’re all feeling that disappointment today.
