Dave Portnoy Discusses Barstool Sports’ New Partnership with Fox Sports

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, recently shared his thoughts on the company’s new collaboration with Fox Sports, highlighting how it marks a significant departure from past partnerships. He feels this relationship is more fitting compared to previous experiences with major media outlets.

Reflecting on earlier collaborations, like the one with ESPN, Portnoy noted that there was a palpable discomfort from their side. “When we worked with ESPN, it felt like they were always unhappy to see me,” he recounted during an interview. “They just didn’t align with what Barstool represented; it was almost as if they were embarrassed.” This, he says, contrasts sharply with the attitude of Fox Sports.

“Fox is the complete opposite,” he stated. “They embrace everything we do. It feels like a real partnership.” Portnoy is enthusiastic about bringing familiar Barstool personalities, including himself and Dan “Big Cat” Katz, into Fox Sports programming. He specifically mentioned his eagerness to participate in the “Big Noon Kickoff” this fall to cover college football, emphasizing a personal connection to his alma mater.

“I’ll be traveling with them every week,” he mentioned. “It’s about time Michigan gets represented properly. It only makes sense for alumni to be involved in these discussions.” Additionally, Portnoy revealed that a dedicated Barstool studio is being established in Chicago as part of the venture.

Excited about the possibilities ahead, he added, “This feels like a fresh start for us. We’ve never had a partnership with a network quite like Fox Sports, and their investment in us is genuine.” Portnoy concluded by conveying the mutual enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “They share our excitement, and honestly, the potential is limitless.”
