Dave Portnoy fumes over Scottie Scheffler arrest with $50,000 bet looming

Dave Portnoy didn’t stop supporting the world’s No. 1 golfer even after Scottie Scheffler was arrested.

Scheffler was arrested by police ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship after a misunderstanding of traffic flow escalated into multiple charges against the Masters champion.

Details are still being sorted out, but the Barstool founder bet $50,000 on Scheffler to win the PGA Championship and cashed in $375,000 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Portnoy took the gamble after winning $1.35 million against Scheffler at the April 14 Masters.

“I’m going to ride through hell with my boyfriend Scotty Scheffler. #DKPartner.” Portnoy posted on X.

“When the chips are down, you can count on Dave Portnoy to be on your side, so when I heard the news, I immediately jumped on DraftKings, put $50,000 into it, and my odds improved. ” portnoy said Appeared on the “Verney and Company” show.

Odds have increased from +650 to +500 as Scheffler is more likely to return to the tournament at Valhalla Golf Club after his time in prison.

“Yes, it’s garbage. There must have been a miscommunication, the police have a very difficult job, it’s clearly a tragic incident,” Portnoy said.

“This was probably the one time in history where you said, ‘Do you know who I am?'” He’s in the driveway heading to the golf club. There are reporters all the time. The police clearly don’t know who he is…Maybe Scheffler shouldn’t have been locked up in jail. It’s crazy that they even took mugshots.”

The Barstool coach likes Scheffler because he has more than seven figures in wins this year with Portnoy.

Portnoy still has a few parlay tickets tied to Scheffler’s win at the Masters, so he could expect even more profit.

Scheffler entered Friday at 4 under par, five shots behind Xander Schauffele for the lead.

Schauffele got off to a hot start and jumped out to a huge lead and is now the +250 favorite to win the PGA Championship.

Behind him is Rory Muckleroy (+450), who is at 5 under, four shots behind the leader.

At the time of writing, Scheffler has the third-highest odds of winning the tournament.
