The end of the podcast era is near.
Dave Portnoy will be leaving Barstool Sports' “BFFs” podcast at the end of the year, leaving the show to co-hosts Brianna LaPaglia and Josh Richards, he confirmed on Thursday's “Unnamed Show.”
“I go there and they show me a topic, I don't do any research, and I'm just picking apart 18-year-olds that I don't know,” Portnoy said. Co-hosts Ryan Whitney and Kirk Minihane. “I don't necessarily like doing that. It's just different.”
Barstool Sports originally broke the news on last week's episode of “BFFs,” but it was buried as LaPaglia's high-profile breakup with country music star Zach Bryan made headlines. It happened.
“My plan for the end of the year was to do it with my best friends.” Barstool CEO said:. “Because I'm getting older, like approaching 50, it's a little bit out of my wheelhouse to talk about teenage drama. So we've been talking about this for months now. I knew that, but I was thinking, “What's the best way to announce it?” The whole thing got a little complicated because[the Zach Bryan drama]came up and we recorded a podcast and it never aired. And one thing about me is that I don't know.
“You can't know that, you can't say it…It was a really ambiguous situation. I thought this was it. I just went with it and said, 'Hey, I respect their decision.' I thought you would say that. I'm not going to talk about Zach's case, but if I do, I have to talk about it, so I can't get involved anymore. ”Then I woke up the next morning and was like, Money sucks. we go ”
Portnoy has plenty to keep busy besides “The Show with No Name.” He runs Barstool Sports Ship, which he bought back from Penn in August 2023 for $1, reviews the wildly popular “One Bite” pizza, and a variety of other commercial and philanthropic endeavors.
Portnoy plans to continue working on other ventures, including “The Nameless Show,'' where he tells Whitney and Minnie Hayne that he has “no interest'' in the topic of “BFFs.''
“It certainly accomplished what I wanted to accomplish when I started it,” Portnoy added. “Josh and Bri are going to keep it going. It's been super successful. But yeah, it's time to try the next thing. I've run my course with it.”
