Even with the Yankees captain standing out in Tuesday’s game, Dave Portnoy managed to take a jab at Aaron Judge.
The discussion about the Yankees’ downfall was rampant, especially from Barstool Sports’ founder, who seemed ready to pile on after the Yankees triumphed 6-1, pushing the series to a critical Game 4 against the Blue Jays.
“Leave Rodon in for another batter! We need to protect the bullpen!” Portnoy shared a video on X, laughing loudly and mocking Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon, while expressing confidence that the Yankees would take the series.
Ironically, Portnoy couldn’t help but lament the Yankees’ earlier 6-run tie, which included a significant three-run homer from Judge that eventually led to a 9-6 Yankees win, giving them something to rally around for future playoffs.
“Maybe Boone should let Rodon face one more hitter. Well, he can always pitch tomorrow,” Portnoy said, somewhat prematurely celebrating what he thought was the Yankees’ end. “They’re thinking they’re popping champagne just making it past the Wild Card. It’s a shame for the city that our team is getting handled so easily.”
After Rodon struggled, the bullpen stepped up, giving the Yankees a chance to rally.
Even following Judge’s momentous game-tying home run, Portnoy didn’t hold back his criticism.
“He doesn’t care,” he remarked about Judge. “It’s kind of cheesy to look back at the camera in the dugout.”
Portnoy also referred to Judge’s celebration as “cornball,” noting that it seemed forced as he looked back at the camera.
The Yankees had previously knocked the Red Sox out of the playoffs in the wild-card round, which Portnoy used to tease, suggesting their rivals didn’t need to celebrate so vigorously.
As the Bronx Bombers now have a shot at redemption with games on Wednesday and Friday, they’ll be looking to avoid elimination against the Blue Jays.
Aaron Boone is hopeful, having seen rookie sensation Cam Schrittler lead a critical win.
