The University of Michigan has brought in some big names to acquire rising star quarterback Bryce Underwood, who is reversing his college commitments.
Portnoy, who has seen the Wolverines struggle this season due to a dire QB situation, spoke on one of his podcasts about how he would use NIL money to help his alma mater acquire a future QB. He said he plans to spend as much as 1 million.
Someone in college saw this and started playing football.
“It all started with me picking them, when I said, “I'm going to go get a quarterback.'' And I'm going to put my money, two to three million, into this thing, and nothing like this will ever happen again.yeah,” Portnoy said on Barstool Sports' college football program.. “And that started the ball rolling in what would forever be known as the Michigan Renaissance.”
Michigan State then initiated several calls to make this happen.
“I got a call from the Michigan football team,” Portnoy said. “They said, “Hey, we have a donor who would like to talk to you.'' I said I don't need to talk to anyone because I'm doing this alone. Please, this woman is a big fan of Barstool and you. Please.” she wants to talk to you. Her name is Jolin. …They said her husband was a guy named Larry Ellison, have you ever heard of him?'
When Ellison, an Oracle executive with a net worth of $240 billion, was mentioned, Portnoy immediately got a call.
“So, did I say Larry Ellison? You mean the second richest man on the planet? Yes, I'll take that call,” Portnoy said.
From there, they planned their next move. The idea was to keep Underwood, who plays at Belleville High School in Michigan, at home.
“she [Jolin Ellison] “I don't want to live in that era again,” he said. “It's unbearable to wake up on a Saturday morning and know we're not the best team on the field,” Portnoy said. “On the first phone call, Jolin said, ‘I needed someone from Michigan to step up and show me that they care as much as I do.’ And it was like a powerhouse. It was like we were united.”
She found the right man. Portnoy graduated from the University of Michigan in 1999, the same year as Tom Brady.
Brady also helped land Underwood. When I FaceTimed with him recentlyreported CBS Sports.
His transfer from Underwood College to the University of Michigan had been planned since October and became a reality when he posted on November 21st: commitment video on his Instagram.
Underwood has reportedly been offered Playing at LSU was rumored to be $1.5 million per year, and Michigan's offer was rumored to be $10 million over four years ($2.5 million per year), but some reports say it's now up to $12 million. .
At 6-foot-3, Underwood looks like a promising player coming out of Michigan State.
LSU coach Brian Kelly is trying to focus on his current Tigers team, which is 7-4 and out of the College Football Playoff.
“Recruiting doesn't mean much when you talk about the current football team,” Kelly said after them. defeated Vanderbilt on Saturday.. “Yeah, I'm disappointed because I've spent years recruiting, but it didn't really touch the core of what we wanted to accomplish. That's what I wanted to do.”
LSU has a storied history of success with quarterbacks being drafted in the first round, most notably Jaden Daniels and Joe Burrow, who quickly became superstars, but Michigan has no center backs. does not have a similarly rich history.
Although Brady is not a blue-chip candidate, he is a University of Michigan graduate and is widely considered to be the greatest quarterback in NFL history.
