Dave Portnoy’s confidence in the Celtics didn’t pay off — as Jerry O’Connell made him suffer.

Actor and Knicks enthusiast Jerry O’Connell had a reason to smile at Dave Portnoy, the Barstool Sports founder, after the Knicks overturned a 20-point deficit to defeat the Celtics 108-105 in overtime on Monday.

Portnoy, somewhat dramatic, distanced himself from the Knicks during the game, noting on X that he didn’t feel he belonged to the same league as the Celtics at one point.

The situation turned out to be quite the opposite, as highlighted by the X account “Frozen Cold Take.” O’Connell got the chance to tease Portnoy at a Barstool betting gala in Scottsdale, Arizona.

In a video shared by Portnoy, O’Connell, known for his role in “Jerry Maguire,” embraced him, while Portnoy appeared distracted, focused on his phone.

O’Connell could be heard telling Portnoy, “Hug me,” and expressing his gratitude with, “Thank you for everything you’re doing.”

“What a day! Bing Bang!” O’Connell shouted excitedly towards Portnoy.

Nonetheless, opinions among sports analysts seem unchanged despite the Knicks’ win. Portnoy tweeted “Gentleman’s Sweep. #celticsin5,” which he repeated at the end of the video.

This victory certainly raises questions for the defending champions.

The Knicks, now viewed as +270 underdogs, were initially around +550 before the series. Coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team’s focus, emphasizing that victory is only a part of the journey.

“It’s essential to understand this is just one win,” Thibodeau remarked. “Preparation must continue for Game 2.”

Game 2 is set for Wednesday at TD Garden.
