Dave Portnoy’s Wild Debut on Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff”
Dave Portnoy’s introduction to Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” has certainly made a splash.
The Barstool Sports founder and enthusiastic Michigan supporter kicked off the show in Columbus, just as the third-ranked Buckeyes were set to face off against No. 1 Texas for the season opener on Saturday.
As host Rob Stone introduced him with a lively welcome, Portnoy performed “Hail to the Victors,” marching onto the “Big Noon Kickoff” stage while high-fiving fans, though some responded with boos.
“You’re ruining our security budget!” Stone quipped, keeping the mood light.
Once on stage, Portnoy continued to engage in playful banter, reminiscent of a WWE event, taunting Ohio fans about the longstanding rivalry, especially noting last year’s narrow win by Michigan, 13-10.
“Shut up! I want a moment of silence for the Ohio State fans who think ‘Here’s the hammer. Michigan’s getting the death penalty for stealing signs,’” Portnoy announced, insisting on the seriousness of the upcoming national championship.
Despite his antics, Portnoy later clarified that he wasn’t there merely to provoke, showing off a maize and blue shirt with the phrase “can’t beat Michigan yet.”
“That national title you think you have means nothing to you,” he proclaimed.
“I’m not here to troll you. I’m here to say the Big Ten goes through Ann Arbor until you manage to beat us.”
The playful tension continued when Urban Meyer presented Portnoy with an Ohio State jersey featuring “President Elle” on the back.
Portnoy appeared to appreciate the gesture, but he didn’t put on the jersey, even as the crowd joined in to chant against the Buckeyes one last time.
“I need a new home for my bathroom, so this is perfect for there,” he joked, thanking Meyer and praising the people of Columbus, albeit with a cheeky reference to their soccer team.
According to Front Office Sports, Portnoy faced a ban from attending Ohio Stadium, but the university’s Ross Bjork clarified that he isn’t officially banned. However, he won’t be part of the main “Big Noon Kickoff” broadcast crew on-site after the game.
