The British government has admitted that Foreign Secretary David Cameron was tricked into answering a prank call claiming to be from the former president of Ukraine, the latest cabinet minister to be deceived in this way.
The British Foreign Office said on Friday that former British Prime Minister David Cameron, who is now Britain’s top diplomat, exchanged “numerous text messages” and had a “short video call” with a man posing as Petro Poroshenko, the former president of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019.
Lord Cameron reportedly became wary of the prankster after the fake Mr Poroshenko asked for contact details of other senior British officials and the Foreign Secretary hung up on him – allegedly over the past few days. Telegraph Reports.
“The video call was clearly with Mr Poroshenko, but after the conversation the foreign minister had doubts,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
“We requested contact details of others but the foreign minister stopped short of responding in light of our concerns.
“Authorities have investigated and determined that the messages and video calls are not genuine and are fake.”

The Government has decided to make the latest prank against Lord Cameron public in order to warn others and thwart any attempts to manipulate video footage from his phone.
“We are publishing this in case the video of the Foreign Secretary is manipulated and subsequently used, and to make others aware of this risk.”
