David DePape, who attacked Democratic Rep. Paul Pelosi, was convicted by a San Francisco jury on Friday of all five state charges related to the break-in at the home of the senator’s husband.
Following a state trial for his October 2022 attack on Paul Pelosi, DePape was unanimously convicted by a jury on five charges, including “kidnapping resulting in bodily harm or death, false imprisonment of an elderly or dependent adult, intimidation of a family member of a public servant, first-degree residential burglary, and interfering with or dissuading a witness by force or intimidation.” according to To CBS News.
During the trial, San Francisco public defender Adam Lipson tried to argue in court that DePape had lived a solitary life before “descending into a labyrinth of propaganda and conspiracy theories,” according to CBS News. (Related article: David Depape sentenced to 30 years in prison)

DePape was convicted last month of beating an 82-year-old businessman to death as he tried to see his wife, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison in November 2023 for attempted kidnapping of a federal agent and assaulting a family member of a government employee.
Before the latest trial began, Judge Harry M. Dorfman dismissed three state charges against DePape, including attempted murder, assault of an elderly person and assault with a deadly weapon. According to CNN, the judge dismissed the charges due to arguments by the defense that they would prevent DePape from being tried again on the same charges after an acquittal or conviction.
Following the verdict, Aaron Bennett, a spokesman for the Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, released a statement on behalf of the Pelosi family, according to CBS News.
“Speaker Pelosi and her family remain in awe of my father’s bravery, which shone as brightly on the testimony stand at this trial as it did on the night of the attack when he saved his own life. Over the past nearly 20 grueling months, Mr. Pelosi has demonstrated extraordinary courage and fortitude throughout his recovery,” the statement read.
“The Pelosi family appreciates the continued kind thoughts and prayers. Speaker Pelosi and her family will refrain from making any further substantive comment until after the verdict has been reached.”
