“DEI is trash,” Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet told a jubilant crowd. Los Angeles Times Book festival. “It’s fascist totalitarianism.”
DEI = Not earned.
Mamet was at the festival to talk about his recently released Hollywood memoir Oink Oink Anywhere (My review is here), Far Left Los Angeles Times I have written.
This is what the playwright and screenwriter writes about his recent “dissatisfaction.” timesrefers to the “stupid diversity rules the Motion Picture Academy has instituted for Oscar-nominated films to promote representation of LGBTQ+, women, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities.”
You can’t give a stupid fucking statue unless the academy “has 7 or 8 percent of this…That’s a nuisance,” Mamet said.
” [film industry] “You can hardly improve everyone’s racial understanding like you can in the fire department,” he added. When it comes to creativity, he says, “there is no room for individual initiative.”
After the fascists times Mr Mamet is said to be embarrassed by his use of the “outdated term ‘transsexual'” but is not a fan of gender-neutral toilets. “This is a politicization of human excretory functions,” he told a jubilant packed audience. There was “laughter”.
Currently, Mamet sees the film industry in the later stages of a cycle of “growth, maturity, decline and death” that “happens with all organic things.”
more:
Mamet acknowledged that discrimination has prevented people from joining Hollywood for years, but he believes the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction. In his book, Mamet describes the leaders of these diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as “diversity capos and diversity commissars.”
Mamet said he was kicked out of Hollywood more because of his age than for political reasons. Young directors want to work with friends of their own generation.
“No one’s going to pay me that much anymore,” Mamet said. “No one lets me have fun.”
What’s interesting is that DEI doesn’t include older adults, who have been discriminated against in the film industry since its inception.
How broken is Hollywood today? How close is the “death” part of the cycle? His three new wide releases ranked over the weekend. Abigailsomething called Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warsomething called Spy x Family Code: White. All three movies combined gross A total of approximately $25 million. The sycophants at Deadline said this. blamed This breathtaking failure is:
What gives? why? This is the same old post-pandemic excuse. Many companies skimp on marketing, eschewing solid box office numbers in order to slip titles into the home entertainment slot and turn a profit as quickly as possible. It is clear that we are now in a world where the perspectives of profitability and success have two different meanings.
No, the problem is that science has proven that movies suck and people know it.
Oh, the stars are no good either. “Cheap” marketing? It’s more like insane marketing where you have a star running around insulting half your customer base the week before a multi-million dollar product is released in theaters.
Still, David Mamet, the person who wrote this article, The Verdict, The Untouchables, House of Games, Glengarry Glen Ross, Spanish Prisoner, The Edge, Wag the Dog, Ronin, and robberycan’t get a job.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to gay-marry my Blu-ray collection.
