The Mets had a relatively quiet offseason.
They don't do big splash moves. There doesn't seem to be much movement on their part. How do you rate the Mets' offseason?
Why not ask someone who has taken action on their own?
Mets Director of Baseball Operations David Stearns appeared on the podcast “The Show” with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman on Wednesday.
Podcast “The Show” with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman:
- Yankees: They need two starting pitchers. Marcus Stroman, of course. What else will they do with the rest of the offseason?
- Mets: Payroll will be considered this offseason. They need some relief pitchers, but may not be able to add more to their rotation or lineup. Do the Mets have enough to make the playoffs? I don't see the Mets trading Pete Alonso.
David Stearns interview:
Mets Baseball Operations Manager
- Pete Alonso: It was difficult to reach an agreement in last year's arbitration. I will not discuss contract negotiations publicly.
- rotate: They are considering moves to acquire Adrian Hauser, Luis Severino, and Sean Manaea. Sean's content has changed and new pitches have been added. I get excited when it spins. Never stop searching.
- Remaining offseason: They could add to the bullpen. This is also an area that can be changed during the season.
- Steve Cohen: It was fun working with him. He has a productive relationship. I want an owner who wants to win.
- outfield: Brandon Nimmo is more than just a left fielder. They have a lot of talented young outfielders. Drew Gilbert and Luis Angel Acuña have the potential to make an impact at the MLB level in the not too distant future.
- Salary: The highest annual salary in baseball. You don't have to worry about salary limits.
